Courage for the Journey is about leaders inspiring and encouraging SMA Middle School young men by telling their own personal stories of how they faced and overcame adversity to realize their dreams.
In their middle school years, young men are thinking more seriously about their purpose in life, how they will find their calling, and how they will succeed. Courage for the Journey concentrates on one aspect of the journey toward finding one’s place in the world: Courage.
Courage – the quality to face challenges with confidence and resolve and to strive passionately toward goals despite setbacks – is a key ingredient to any man’s likelihood of realizing dreams and experiencing happiness in career, family and community life.
Too often, young men see successful political, business, artistic, sports, and community leaders as simply being lucky or gifted; they have little understanding of what it takes to achieve success. Leaders in the community help to dispel that myth by sharing an afternoon and evening of stories of how they overcame personal and professional setbacks in life. This time set aside for SMA Middle School young men and their fathers or significant male mentors is inspiring well beyond the hours of the event.
