St. Mary’s Academy, a Catholic, independent school, enjoys deep roots in the history of Colorado and the history of Sisters of Loretto.

Founded in 1864 by the Sisters of Loretto, the school originally stood in the city of Denver.  Today SMA sits on 24 beautiful acres in Englewood.  Students enjoy up to date facilities in each of the academic buildings; sports teams and physical education classes run in and out of Bishop Evans Gymnasium all day long; and the athletic fields are host to many exciting sport contests—all in the shadow of a breathtaking mountain view!

In 1875, St. Mary’s Academy awarded the first high school diploma in the Colorado Territory to a young woman named Jesse Forshee.  Jesse Forshee went on to be an accomplished educator and Sister of Loretto.

The Loretto influence continues today at St. Mary’s Academy, predominantly in the constant presence of the Loretto School Values: faith, community, justice and respect.  All students, teachers and parents know and embrace these values with great appreciation.

ActivBoards hum in almost every classroom on campus.  Students’ exposure and use of technological tools is daily, comprehensive and cutting edge.

All SMA students participate in community service.  Whether on a trip to New Orleans to help build houses, serving lunch to homeless people downtown or participating in a collection drive, service is a fundamental part of the St. Mary’s Academy experience.

Tuition for 2010-2011 is $13,230.  The Tuition Assistance Fund provided more than $1 million in assistance to 25% of the student body in 2009-2010.

Since the beginning in 1864, St. Mary’s Academy has been a school for all children of all backgrounds.  We continue to be that inclusive community, welcoming students of every race, religious tradition and economic background. We enjoy a community that is 24% diverse (one of the highest percentages among independent schools).

A strong college preparatory program, SMA High School students select from 11 Advanced Placement courses as well as honors level and cross discipline courses.
