Loretto School Values
The founding work of Loretto was education. The first three sisters saw a need and responded. That attitude has been a theme for Loretto ever since, in education and in the pursuit of justice and peace.
The mission of education begun in Hardin’s Creek, Kentucky in 1812, continued across the United States and spread to China, then to Bolivia, Peru, Chile and currently Ghana, with the Blessed Trinity Leadership Academy in Akokoamong, Ghana. This is the first school in that village.
The tradition of education in the Loretto tradition continues today with Loretto-sponsored schools in Denver, El Paso, and St. Louis. The schools are deeply committed to Loretto tradition and in 1997 collaborated with Loretto members on a statement to express the desire to further Loretto in the schools.
The Loretto-sponsored schools share a commitment to living these Loretto School Values
Faith: To build hope, to foster community and to act in charity and service out of an experience of the enduring love of God.
Community: To build interdependent relationships that are affirming, inclusive, empowering and compassionate.
Justice: To promote change in systems and in relationships that are oppressive. To create systems in which people, especially women, are treated fairly and impartially.
Respect: To be open to differences and to believe in the potential of each person. To promote the dignity of each person and to protect the sacredness of all creation.
