Lower School

SMA’s Lower School is a happy place where learning abounds.  Children grow in a community where caring teachers nurture and challenge them academically, physically and spiritually as they develop a sense of themselves and their place in the world.

Teachers know each student as an individual — how they learn best, what interests them  — and make learning a fulfilling experience.  An integrated curriculum connects subject matter and analytical problem-solving skills with the real world, engaging students’ hearts and minds in meaningful learning.   Each day is an invigorating blend of grade-level instruction, individual work, small group project and activities in core academic subjects as well as Spanish, arts, physical education and religion and values. With this solid foundation, these confident students thrive in middle school, high school, college and beyond.

With an emphasis on the whole child, Lower School offers many experiences in addition to the academic curriculum for students to discover new interests and understand the world around them.  Playing in the band, learning a sport, joining a Destination ImagiNation team, and performing for an audience stretch each child’s sense of self.   Reading to senior citizens in a health care center, packing and distributing Thanksgiving baskets and many other service projects become important lessons in compassion and respect for others.

Lower School develop the academic skills and personal values to become  intelligent, kind, and caring persons throughout life.

What is the sum of 9 and 9?

I love SMA!  The teachers help my child find his strengths and the academics are appropriately challenging.
