Middle School

St. Mary’s Academy Middle School offers an environment in which students are inspired to learn. Teachers deliver thoughtfully developed academic, arts and athletic programs that engage learners in self-discovery and the subsequent ability to view life from a variety of perspectives.

The Middle School program balances a traditional academic approach with experiential learning.  Students engage in multi-media presentations, research, daily practice of mathematical algorithms and grammatical structure, outdoor experiences, team building, service in the community, leadership, a world language, fine arts and team sports or physical education.

The Loretto School Values of faith, community, justice and respect guide daily interactions.  Reflection time in the Commons, prayer services and studies in theology provide students with opportunities to strengthen their ethical and spiritual grounding.

Throughout students’ three years in Middle School, they are part of Community Action Teams (CAT) within which they develop their service and leadership skills. As a small, multi-grade group within the larger Middle School community, CATeams travel to Denver-area pre-schools and retirement homes, prepare food for the homeless and engage in fund-raising and collections to help others.

The service and leadership aspect of CATeams threads throughout the curriculum, where students are challenged to understand global issues in all of their classes and to imagine and realize how they can make a difference.  An area of focus in 2010-2011 is the initiation and development of interactive relationships with communities in Peru and Ghana, incuding a trip to Peru in spring.

St. Mary’s Academy Middle School is a place where students are individually known.  They are loved, liked and appreciated.  Each student is a significant part of the community and is inspired and challenged to understand “Who Am I?” and how they can make a positive difference in the world.

St. Mary's Academy is accredited by the Association of Colorado Independent Schools (ACIS).

What is the sum of 2 and 1?

Teachers in the Middle School not only worked with the students but also worked with each other to create strong programs for the kids.  They helped us be organized in our studies and focus on learning.  SMA was an excellent school for preparing us for high school.  What we learned at SMA will be valuable as we start college this fall.
