- Dan Patterson, father of Catherine Patterson ’01 and Julia Patterson ’05, passed away on September 7, 2012 after a graceful and dignified seven and a half year battle with Multiple Myeloma
- Sister Edith Anne Jaeger, SL died at the Loretto Motherhouse on December 9, 2012. Sr. Edith Anne was a gifted artist and taught art at SMA from 1973-1976
- Sister Mary Rhodes Buckler, SL died at the Loretto Motherhouse on August 12, 2012. She taught at SMA in the early 1950s. Her life was celebrated at a Memorial Mass and Reception on September 5, 2012 at the Loretto Center in Littleton, CO
- Sister Susan Swain, SL, passed away on April 27, 2012. Sister Susan was the principal of the St. Mary’s Academy Lower School from 1987-2002 and served on SMA’s Board of Trustees from 2004-2012
- Sister Rosemary Wilcox, SL passed away on September 18, 2012. Sr. Rosemary was an important part of the history of the Loretto Community in Denver. In 1947, she came to SMA to assist in putting out the Academy yearbook and ended up teaching a 9th grade math class until the end of the school year. She helped to open Machebeuf High School, and in 1988 she was named Chancellor of the Archdiocese of Denver, a position not usually held by a woman but that she held for 10 years.
