First graders love reading

The first graders enjoyed their first Brown Bag Book Club last week. To spark the sharing, each student had a brown bag with a question on it related to character, setting, plot and similar ideas, plus popcorn to munch on during the discussions.
These young readers are also enjoying Mystery Readers — parents, grandparents, siblings and other relatives — who surprise the class when they arrive to read to them. On March 2, when the students celebrated Dr. Seuss’s birthday, a grandmother from Canada read The Cat and the Hat and taught some French vocabulary along the way.
Many parents have commented on their children coming home very excited about these two literacy experiences!
