LS Book Clubs: great books, fun activities on campus

It seems that everyone is reading this summer!  And coming to school for book discussions adds to the fun!

Third graders are choosing from teachers Lisa Frieman and Barbara Piester’s book list.  Reading books such as Charlotte’s Web, The Magic School Bus: Inside the Earth and Judy Moody Gets Famous will prepare them for more reading and learning that will begin when they come back to school in August.  Students are keeping their teacher informed about their progress by sending the teachers a postcard about their book (favorite parts, etc.)

Recently Darla Hamilton’s fourth graders came to school to discuss The Lemonade War.  The kids read this book at home, then gathered together to drink lemonade while exploring the plot of the endless war over who can sell the most lemonade.  The next discussion will be Holes by Louis Sachar.

That same week the fifth grade book club was busy discussing Brendan Buckley’s Universe and Everything In It by Sundee T. Frazier. Classmates gathered on campus for a fun-filled afternoon of activities relating to the summer reading.  The next book club meeting will be held on July 30to discuss The Aurora County All-Stars.

A good book, a great discussion, and the chance to spend the afternoon at SMA add up to a terrific summer!
