Mothers and Daughters Share a Special Day

Mother Daughter RetreatOn Saturday, February 12, nearly 40 mothers and daughters gathered in the High School to spend the day together laughing, role playing, learning and getting to know each other better. The retreat was facilitated by campus minister Paula Lee and high school counselor Julie May. Service Learning coordinator and humanities teacher Amber Smith also assisted with preparation for the day. The retreat day concluded with the celebration of Mass. Father Chrysostom Frank, Pator of St. Elizabeth of Hungary and Sts. Cyril and Methodius.

There were many activities throughout the day.  Moms and daughters switched roles as they acted out typical situations around social life, family time and texting. In small groups, both moms and daughters had the opportunity to respond to questions and share wisdom in the areas such as qualities that make a good daughter/mother, happy memories, dreams for each other. Participants made bracelets for each other, which they exchanged during Mass. There was also time for writing and sharing letters to each other expressing their love and admiration.

The day provided all attendees with the opportunity to spend precious time together while coming to a new understanding of the challenges and joys mothers and daughters face. Feedback was very positive and the High School hopes to offer another mother and daughter retreat next year!
