Senior Scholastic National ContestHer medal-winning work is a ceramics piece titled  “Jennifer McCurdy Study.” “Alyse created the ‘Jennifer McCurdy Study’ piece as part of a class assignment in which students had to complete a research paper on a contemporary potter and sculpt a piece in their style,” saysher ceramics teacher Jamie Hatch-Sniegowski.  “Because of Alyse’s attraction to porcelain, she chose Jennifer McCurdy to study.  Alyse’s phenomenal technical skills and truly attentive, artistic eye enabled her to create this impressive sculpture.”

Jennifer McCurdy StudyThe contest in New York City was the final step in a process that began in state contests. In Colorado, several thousand students submitted art work to the state competition. At the state level, seven SMA students earned honors for nine single works and an 8-piece portfolio. Alyse’s ceramics piece and Aurora Meyer’s portfolio of prints, paintings and drawings were Gold Key winning pieces sent to New York City for the national competition.
