Special Guests at St. Mary’s Academy

 

Sisters of Loretto and Co-Members of Loretto have been making frequent appearances, live and over Skype in SMA classes, as part of the school’s celebration of Loretto’s 200th anniversary in 2012.  With the help of Regina Drey SL, SMA Historian and Director of Loretto Projects, many knowledgeable Lorettos are sharing their real world experiences.

Marie Ego SL spoke to Pete Sniegowski’s African literature class about her 18 years in Ghana.  

Cecily Jones SL, Loretto’s resident poet, taught a unit on poetry to three of Anne Evans’ classes via Skype.

Alicia Ramirez SL visited campus and Co-member Carolyn Jaramillo Skype-visited Mary Pat Meuller’s social justice class where they both talked about immigration issues and Loretto members traveling to the Arizona/Mexico border.

Kathleen Vonderhaar SL visited SMA to talked about teaching GED classes to  women in prisons in rural Kentucky.

Most recently, Susan Swain SL presented to first and second grade students on the development of Loretto’s habit within the context of women’s attire over the years.  Sister Regina spoke with a senior advisory about her journey to becoming a Sister of Loretto.
